#5702 & #5701 Thoroughbred Lying and Standing Foals

1975-76

The Thoroughbred foals came in scads of variations even though they were only in production two years. Leg markings and variations in colour and finish are most common, but a few rare examples have facial markings. Mine are of the less dramatic variety, but still super cute.

These guys are actually both chestnuts. When I was editing the picture, I was so surprised by the difference in shade between the two that I had to go and check my models on the shelf to make sure the first model wasn't actually my bay from the stable set, but nope, chestnut.

If you look closely you can see that both of them have the early 1970s 'roaning' that was not infrequently found on chestnut and a few palomino models. The hind hooves on the darker model are just barely shaded while the lighter one's are almost black.

My black Standing Foals are less dramatic. The upper model has a satin to semi-gloss finish, higher hind leg markings and vague foreleg markings. That's not a star on her forehead, just a bit of glare. The lower model is very matte with four stockings. I would love to find a sock-less example for the herd on day.
